Christopher caught me by surprise one day and announced that covid vaccines had been donated to Uganda and would arrive in March. Previous predictions had them arriving in June or so. After a few weeks of calls, following the news, which included a conspiracy regarding the Minister of Health supposedly faking taking the vaccine, travel plans in constant flux, submitting personnel files to the Ministry of Health, teaching the staff about how the vaccine works and the usual delays it finally arrived in our district! Last Friday, Christopher went to district head quarters to pick them up, delivered them to three different destinations, and transported our staff to the nearest distribution site. The majority of our clinic staff has now received their first dose of the vaccine! Our staff was able to be the example even to other health workers in the district who were reluctant at first. Christopher was able to assist in a tangible and very real way – the government hadn’t budgeted for transportation of the vaccine to distribution sites so without his help they may have simply gone bad sitting at district head quarters. I’m truly grateful for this gift and the opportunity we had to assist. Now we’re praying the second dose will arrive too!
